Kids Invited To Explore Science At 'How Cool Is That' Camp In Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Ridgefield Parks and Recreation is offering two special camps this summer to keep kids busy and provide fun.

Come learn the "ancient art for modern times" with the new Kempo Academy Mixed Martial Arts Camp, based on the Steve DeMasco Shaolin Studios (SDSS) Instructional Method, Monday, Aug. 15 through Friday, Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon. 

This camp will focus on fitness, strength, conditioning, agility and martial arts-based games and activities. Students ages 4-12 will gain confidence, self-control and learn group camaraderie. A karate uniform is not required. Campers will wear shorts, t-shirts and a karate belt. Belts will be provided to new students. Campers who are eligible for belt rank advancement testing will be tested on Friday at the end of the session. Testing is optional and is not included in the camp rate. How Cool Is That?! Camp for kindergarten through fifth grades will be held Monday, Aug. 15 through Friday, Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Science is fun and exciting with this interactive camp that will keep kids engaged through hands-on/minds-on science activities that may include catapults, bungee jump Barbie, microscopes, grossology, Alka-Seltzer rockets and more. Velya Jancz-Urban, a certified teacher, encourages her students to not only think outside the box, but avoid the box all together. Session times are:

Kindergarten through second grades: 9 a.m. – noon

Third through fifth grades: 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.
